In a press conference Billy Fairchild the quarterback from Clinton Massie High School announced today that he will be attending the University Of Cincinnati.

This was felt by many in the NCAA football front. With offers of a starting job at Ohio State, as well as Georgia Fairchild takes a 3 string role for UC.

UC coach was asked about Fairchild’s commitment.  ” We have expressed out interest in Billy since his sophomore year. He has visited the school 3-4 times and we really liked what we seen in him. I also was very up front with Billy that he is going to have to prove he can start at this level. This is why he is third on the depth chart.”

With that being said, many critics are wondering what Fairchild’s think was going to a Big East school and being low on the depth chart.

Our sports analyst Jim Krieg had the opportunity to a short interview of Fairchild.

Jim: So Billy, we all want to know. What was the key factor in your decision?

Billy: Well, I have always been a huge fan of UC football. They aren’t over hyped and actually have a great program. Coach Kelly is also an amazing coach. I just knew this was where I belong.I wanted to stay close to home as well. I just couldn’t see myself at a big school. I am a small town kid remember? (laughs)

Jim: So how do you feel about being third on the depth chart?

Billy: I knew about that from day one. I came here to help the UC football program. If I have to earn a starting spot, I am all for that. I love proving myself. It makes me stronger.

  • I can’t help but to shake my head. UC has done great things for their football program, but it’s still UC. And the great things I’m talking about are the team making it to second, even third tier bowl games.

Make no mistake, when the season starts, he won’t be third on the depth chart. If he is, the “fire Coach Kelly” chants will ring loud.

I do have to question this kids will to win championships though, because let’s be honest, it’s NOT going to happen at UC. It takes more than a quarterback at the college level. Sure they’ll put up points, but they’ll give them up too.
